Cooling Cloud Gel Foam Top Layer

The first layer of this mattress from the top is a proprietary cooling Cloud foam. This foam is 1.5″ thick and is made from polyurethane with gel fused into it. It is manufactured using the exclusive Variable Pressure Foaming (VPF) system of the Puffy brand which is environmentally friendly.

Climate Comfort Foam

On the second layer, there is another Polyurethane foam made using the same VPF process. This one is even more breathable and serves to ease pressure from the back as well as resist erratic temperatures. This layer is 1.5″ thick just like its counterpart above.

Firm Base Layer

This 7″ core support foam is also a product of Polyurethane and through the same VPF process. It serves as an adequate foundation for this mattress.

All the polyurethane used in the construction of these layers is non-latex.

Puffy Lux Mattress

This latest addition to the mattress luxury and comfort style of the puffy brand comes in four exclusive layers. Each is geared to affording the sleeper every comfort needed to enjoy a sound sleep.

Cloud Cooling Foam

Same 1.5″ of Polyurethane non-latex foam covers the top of this mattress. It followed same VPF process which is a patented system of the Puffy brand.

Body Adapting Dual Cloud Foam

This particular feature is exclusive to the Lux Mattress. Same VPF style and same Polyurethane non-latex material but was designed to be super adaptive and made to contour the body properly. It’s a great pressure reliever and you feel like a baby cradled in it.

Climate Comfort Foam

Another 2″ polyurethane foam sits in the third layer and was manufactured with the same VPF process. This eases pressure off the body and can withstand temperature instability.

Rigid Support Core

At the base is a sturdy support 7″ foam made of Polyurethane and designed with the VPF process. This base ensures durability and optimal support is attained.

Top Cover

N/B: All mattresses from Amerisleep comes with the same cover and for the rest of this review, it will be needless dwelling on covers since there’s no difference. The cover for AS1 is same as that of AS2 to AS5, and the hybrid options equally.

The highlight of this cover on all mattresses from Amerisleep is the inclusion of Celliant which is blended with spandex and polyester.

The Celliant in the mix makes the cover cool to the touch and is also reputed to harbour therapeutic benefits for the muscle.

Comfort Layer

Surely made for comfort, this comfort layer is made up of a 2 inch Bio-pur® memory foam. This foam contours the body perfectly and allows you to sink in a little to relieve pressure points.

It’s also quite responsive since it’s just 2 inches, so you don’t get trapped while trying to get up. This layer also uses an open cell technology that makes it breathable to make the sleeper enjoy a cool sleep.

Base Layer

The core of this mattress is an 8 inch high-density polyfoam that offers all the support, resilience and durability for the few inched layers above it.

This layer is also responsible for the firmness of this mattress. On the basis of it’s sheer strenght, it was tagged the firmest mattress on the Amerisleep line.

AS2

The AS2 is also a firm mattress, but sits in the medium-firm range, making it ideal for stomach and back sleepers. Its construction is in three layers.

Cover – All covers are the same.

Top Layer

The first and top layer just beneath the cover is a 2 inch Bio-pur® memory foam that provides adequate contouring and pressure relief. It also keeps the body cool with an open cell technology. This top layer is very soft.

Middle Transition Layer

The second layer or middle layer consist of a 3 inch polyfoam. This layer is very firm and also known as the affinity layer.

Base Layer

Serving as base for the layers of this mattress is 7 inches of high-density polyfoam which is very firm and provides structural support for the mattress. There is also a zoned support system in place here which is a patented one to relieve pressure off pressure points, enhance alignment and reduce back pain.

AS3

AS3 is the most popular mattress on the Amerisleep mattress series. It sits at the middle in the firmness scale – not too soft and not too firm. So this mattress is recommended for side sleepers and those who change positions often. Its construction is in three layers.

Top Comfort Layer

3 inches of a Bio-pur® memory foam sits at the top layer for maximum coolness, softness and pressure relief.

Middle Transition Layer

2 inches of 1.65lb density  polyfoam serves as the second and transition layer. This layer transit the sleeper from the soft top layer to the medium firm base.

Base Support Layer

Serving as base and support for the entire mattress is 7 inches of high-density polyfoam which is average on firmness. It’s soft but provide the needed firmness for support.

AS4

The AS4 is on the soft side, specifically on the medium-soft range of the firmness scale making it ideal for side sleepers. It’s the second softest foam on the line. It’s construction is in 3 layers and it’s 12 inches in height.

The top layer consists of 4 inches of Bio-pur memory foam. This layer is typically soft, breathable and pressure-relieving.

Middle Transition Layer

An inch of breathable transition foam sits at the middle position to transit the sleeper from the soft surface to the firm support base layer using a surface modification technology. This layer also come with support zones to relief pressure from pressure points like the back, shoulders, neck and hips.

Base Support Layer

At the base is 7 inches of high-density Bio-core foam providing support to the entire mattress and enforcing durability.

 

AS5

AS5 is the softest mattress on the series and often known as the plush mattress. It’s the most sophisticated mattress on the Amerisleep series with four uniquely built layers and the signature Celliant cover. It’s also the highest in height at 14 inches.

The top layer of this mattress is 3 inches of Bio-pur® memory foam providing pressure relief in contouring and coolness in breathability.

Compression Layer

2 inches of foam known as the Active Flex layer sits just beneath the comfort layer. This layer is very soft but also come with the firmness of a memory foam. This layer is exclusive to the AS5 and also contributes to pressure relief by allowing you sink in not too deep to be trapped.

Transition Layer

This layer is 2 inches of foam that is well-spaced for a hitch-free air passage and subsequent cooling. It also serves as the bridge between the soft top layer and the firm support base layer. It is also zoned to guarantee pressure relief on pressure points.

Base Support Layer

Conclusion

Amerisleep is in the top league and is one brand that believes every mattress should come with a unique firmness level. Amerisleep offers 5 different mattresses which are all-foams and then 3 hybrids.

While the distinction on firmness is great and the variety (hybrids and foams) is also reasonable, Puffy does better even though it has just two all-foam mattresess.

Amerisleep designed it’s mattresses for comfort, support and coolness. No doubt, but Puffy’s comfort is superior.

Puffy has double comfort layers made of a cloud cooling gel foam and a climate comfort foam.

On the lux version it nudges things upwards with a body adapting cloud foam to guarantee each sleeper all the support and cool comfort they need to have a great sleep and stay healthy.
